A new MOT centre is to open in High Wycombe after a planning application has been approved by Buckinghamshire Council.

Mr Mohammed Asif was successful in his application to open an MOT testing facility at unit three of the Abercromby Industrial Estate at Abercromby Avenue.

The applicant had applied for a certificate of lawfulness for the proposed use of a building for car repairs and servicing.

He explained that the garage was already in use and being run as a garage and at some point, in the 1990s the building had been used as an MOT testing station, which he ‘needed to add’ to his existing garage.

There are currently several garages and car businesses in the surrounding area.

In their approval of the plans, officers said: “The council is satisfied on the evidence adduced to it that the existing lawful use of the building for car servicing and repair works is a general industrial use.”

They added: “The proposed use of the site for MOT testing facility ancillary to this use would therefore not materially change the use of the site and thus express planning permission is not required.”

Planning history of the site shows that the building has been in general industrial use since the larger factory was converted into smaller units in 1973.
