Motorists are facing ‘nightmare’ traffic while Thames Water carries out repairs to a leaking pipe.
Buckinghamshire Council has warned drivers of four-day emergency roadworks on Lower Road, Aylesbury, following a water leak opposite the Stoke Mandeville Ambulance Station.
Three-way traffic lights have been installed while Thames Water carries out the pipe repair work and are expected to remain in place until Monday, June 3.
Starting yesterday (May 30), they will be manually controlled between the hours of 7am and 7pm, including over the weekend.
Commuters travelling through Stoke Mandeville have been caught off guard by the roadworks, causing a heavy traffic build-up at peak travel times.
One driver described the delays as “absolute chaos”, while another said the lights did not appear to be working correctly this morning (May 31), with “gridlock” on one side and cars speeding “straight through” on the other.
They added: “Shambles as usual with these lower road works.”
A third traveller said they missed their hospital appointment due to the “endless queuing” on Lower Road, with a fourth describing the congestion as "nightmarish".
