Businesses, residents, and community organisations are invited to express their interest in a potential sizzling affair for the first ever chicken wing festival in Cookham.

After a difficult winter for the village due to flooding and the bridge closure, Wing Day Cookham aims to showcase culinary excellence and community spirit.

Held in collaboration by Cowdery’s of Cookham and The Crown Inn, the one-day event seeks to ‘wing’ over hearts and minds for a celebration of fantastic food within the Cookham community.

Demonstrations from culinary experts will reveal the art of cooking delicious chicken wings, while live music is planned throughout the day with local artists and tribute bands playing much-loved classics.

For attendees who are in it to ‘wing’ it, there will also be an opportunity to participate in an eating competition and ‘Wingo Bingo’, with the proceeds going to the Marlow-based Link Foundation.

Wing Day Cookham is dependent on licensing permission from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, but organisers are hoping to host the event on Saturday, August 31.

Sam Cowdery, of Cowdery’s of Cookham, said: “Wing Day Cookham aims to unite and delight the Cookham community this summer.

“It’s a completely new idea for the village and provides an exciting opportunity to celebrate Cookham’s culinary expertise.

“We are looking forward to working with local vendors and relevant parties to bring this event to life.”

Shay Bottomley, co-organiser of the event, said: “Cookham is a wonderful village where the sense of community is second to none.

“It’s hard to believe just how many fantastic flavours and succulent sauces go well with a bowl of wings, which themselves have a unique ability to bring people together.

“We hope this event will encourage everyone to spread their culinary wings, and would love to hear from as many people as possible to ensure it’s a community event for all.”
