The Pizza Express in Marlow will be revamped with a new-look shopfront after the changes were approved by Buckinghamshire Council.

The popular chain restaurant at 48 on the High Street will have its signs replaced as part of the upgrades.

A smaller projected sign above the windows will be replaced, with the existing arm holding it up to be retained.

Meanwhile, the existing white ‘Pizza Express’ sign will be replaced with new lettering covered in gold leaf.

An LED light will be fitted above the lettering to illuminate the text, with plans also showing a strip of plants above the sign.

An artist’s impression of the shopfront also shows new window illustrations, including a pizzaiolo preparing food.

In its application, Pizza Express said: “Because the building is being upgraded with signage that already exists and has been for several years, we foresee no detrimental impact on the building with regards to our undertaking the above works.

“The signage conforms to the conservation area appraisal and is in line with Buckinghamshire Council Wycombe area advertising guidelines.”

Pizza Express has occupied the site for several years and the changes to the restaurant will ‘have no adverse effect’ upon nearby heritage assets or the character of the area, planning officer said.
