Police and fire services rushed to Broad Lane in Beaconsfield last night after fire broke out at a large landfill site for the second time in two months.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police warned locals of “an incident” at the landfill site on Broad Lane at 9pm yesterday (August 15) and urged them to “avoid the area if possible and keep all of your doors and windows closed”.
They said “multiple fire and police vehicles” were present at the scene.
It comes less than two months after emergency services rushed in a near-identical capacity to the Beaconsfield road on June 27 after reports of a blaze at the landfill site.
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services said the June incident saw fire spread across the entirety of the refuse area, measuring around 20 by 50 metres.
The site, which is based at Springfield Farm Quarry, was recently subject to a planning application proposing the extension of its use as landfill until 2044 and an expansion beyond its current boundaries.
Veolia Landfill submitted the plans in May, immediately stoking local discontent, with Cllr Alison Wheelhouse drawing attention to “long and continuing issues with odour management” from the area.
Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services have been contacted for an update this morning (August 16).
