Tesco in High Wycombe will be closing its doors for nearly a year to help relocate the Buckinghamshire archives to the town.

Here is everything you need to know:

Why is Tesco in High Wycombe closing for a year?

It may not end up being technically a full year but the branch in the Eden Centre will be shutting down from October until Autumn 2025.

Will they still have a branch in Wycombe?

Tesco will open a temporary Tesco Express store in the Eden Centre so shoppers don't need to worry about missing out on their Finest fix.

Will the store be changing?

Tesco has decided to downsize its town centre branch in Wycombe and will only occupy the ground floor when it reopens next year.

What will happen to the upstairs?

The upstairs of the building will be used by Buckinghamshire Council as the new home of the county archives. Prime location for a lot of history!

The archives are currently stored at the council’s Walton Street offices in Aylesbury, but the rooms housing the documents and artefacts – some of which are 800 years old – have reached capacity.

What are people saying about it?

Well one person seems very positive about the news and that's John Chilver, the council's cabinet member for accessible housing and resource.

He described it as "fantastic news" for High Wycombe residents.

Mr Chilver said: “Not only do they retain a much-used supermarket, they will also benefit from the relocation of an important cultural and historical treasure trove, right on their doorstep in the form of the Buckinghamshire Archives.

“We know how important this supermarket is to residents and helping to ensure its retained presence in the heart of the town centre provides a clear indication of our commitment to supporting positive change within the town.”
