A DRIVER made a miraculous escape from a car after it flipped over and landed on its roof.

Bystanders looked on in amazement as a young man crawled from the wreckage of a nearly new, Y-registered blue Rover just yards from Tylers Green Middle School in Cock Lane, at about 2.30pm on Friday.

Just an hour later the road would have been busy with parents picking up their children from the school.

Beverley Dunn, from Naphill, who was driving past at the time, called an ambulance and police.

She said: "I saw him climbing out of there and I thought 'Oh my God.' He was walking about and didn't seem to have a scratch on him." Police said the car had been in collision with a parked blue Volkswagen Beetle before it ended up on its roof with the windscreen smashed.

Norman and Mavis Allen, who live opposite where it happened, heard the smash from their garden.

Mr Allen, 66, said: "It wasn't that loud, it must have struck a glancing blow and rolled. It's amazing the driver's not hurt."

Traffic heading away from High Wycombe along Cock Lane was gridlocked after the incident.

Kate Spark, spokesman for Thames Valley Police, said that the driver of the Rover had been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol but was later released without charge.
