Thames Valley Police attended a property in Aylesbury after reports of a land mine found in a garden.
Some residents in Ann’s Close and part of Kingsland Road at Elm’s Farm were evacuated from the homes as police rushed to the garden of the home.
Nearby neighbours reported that the item was a grenade found by a child in a garden.
A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: “We received a report of a suspected land mine at an address in Anns Close, Aylesbury, at around 8pm yesterday (12/10).
“Officers attended and put a cordon in place, with some residents being evacuated.
“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended and took the suspicious object away, which was not believed to be explosive.
“The cordon was removed with the evacuated residents able to return home by 11pm.”
