The reaction to High Wycombe’s latest burger bar opening in the town centre has been mixed.
Beef Guys, which is based in Frogmoor directly next door to Subway, had a soft opening on Sunday, November 10, before their grand unveiling took place on Friday, November 15.
Owner Omar Hamidyar told the Free Press that plans to launch the takeaway in the town had been in motion for roughly ‘eight to nine months’, with their USP being that they offer beef brisket and red tikka donner meat.
According to the entrepreneur, this is an ‘untapped market’ in the area.
However, despite his excitement about opening in the centre of High Wycombe, some residents have hit back, suggesting that the town doesn’t need another fast food restaurant.
There are many eateries in the town, with a large portion of them being based in Frogmoor.
Taking to Facebook, Michael Smith said: “We DON'T need any more of these fast food outlets!
“There is nothing in Frogmoor except fast food outlets.
“We need retail outlets.”
Simon Tickner added: “What the hell is wrong with the planners allowing these food outlets to keep opening?”
Whilst Derek Collins said: “Anyone can make a burger.
“I do better ones over a campfire on my holidays that no other fast-food outlet could match for taste.”
However, despite some criticism, many are happy with the new arrival and hope it thrives in the town.
Ch Qad said: “People really on here [Facebook] acting like their life has been impacted by someone opening a business,
“Instead of moaning and complaining, why don't you open the business you feel your community needs?
“Some people work hard, save money, to invest in a business only for others to say that it's a front for money laundering.
“People are fickle and always ready to judge. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.”
Sean Dakin added: “Best of luck to the business owner and their staff.
“I’d sooner go here than the likes of McDonald’s the next time I feel like a burger.
“If people prefer to eat healthy alternatives, they can easily pick up some healthy salad from the supermarket to have a better meal.
"Or likewise, find a takeaway that also offers healthier alternatives on their menu.”
Julian Walters said: “I don't know why everyone is so upset, it is just replacing a similar business, maybe they will be better quality.”
Beef Guys replaces the short-lived pizzeria, Detroit Pizza, which was launched in 2023.
Omar has also opted to keep the previous business’ décor and design, which includes unique yellow and brick tiles, American wall numberplates, as well as a huge functioning traffic light inside the shop.
Following its opening earlier this month, a steady flow of customers have been spotted entering the burger bar.
