A campaign has been launched to raise £200,000 to build an enclosure over a primary school swimming pool.
The initiative, called Stokie's Big Splash, aims to raise funds to build an enclosure around the swimming pool at Stokenchurch Primary School and Nursery.
This would allow pupils to use the pool throughout the year and enable the community to use the pool outside of school hours.
The campaign is led by the pool committee in partnership with local swimming school, Ducks 2 Water.
The campaign officially began in January 2025 after planning permission was granted.
The committee has since been busy organising events, surveys, and awareness sessions with local schools and the community.
The total cost of the project, including the necessary groundworks, the enclosure, project management, maintenance, and ongoing costs in the first year, is expected to be around £200,000.
The campaign will feature various fundraising activities, including table top sales, grant applications, community events, and the flagship 'Make Your Mark' campaign.
All proceeds will go towards the development and construction of the project.
Abbie Mayo, chair of the pool committee, said: "There have been many suggestions over the years about opening the pool to the community, and enabling year-round swimming and we are delighted to have received planning permission and being in a position to fundraise to make this happen.
"Through Stokie's Big Splash, we hope to raise vital funds and also inspire others to be more active."
James Nugent from Ducks 2 Water, the local swimming school in partnership with the school, said: "We are so excited to be working with the team to make this happen.
"There is a real shortage of swimming opportunities for children and young people especially, and the value of offering local swimming classes goes far beyond the travel and timing implications, when a true life skill is being formed."
The public and businesses are encouraged to support the initiative by donating online, attending events, signing up to the 'Make Your Mark' initiative, and suggesting ideas or other ways to raise money.
The campaign is not only about raising funds but also about bringing the community together to make a lasting impact on their health and wellbeing.
The initiative seeks to offer another amenity within the village, contributing to the overall quality of life for residents.
The campaign is expected to make a significant difference in the community, providing year-round swimming opportunities and promoting an active lifestyle.
