Chesham Brownies have opened up a time capsule from the year 2000, 25 years on, and the girls aged 7 - 10 shared their thoughts on what they found inside.

The biscuit tin time capsule held a guide to the millennium bug, several cartoons, supermarket ads/mail order catalogues, a Cadbury's chocolate toy, and small scrapbooks from the young girls in February 2000.

The tin said: "This tin was filled by 1st Chesham Brownies in January 2000.

"Please leave unopened for as long as possible - at least until 20205."

The group's Snowy Owl, Lesley Barros, said that the Brownies are planning on making their own capsule to be opened in 2050.

They will replace it with this one from 2000, so that the group in 25 years can open two of them to compare.

The girls were very curious about the millennium bug.

The girls said they thought people were "being a bit silly".

Elizabeth said: "You should only be scared when you are about to die, and all that was was that you had to reboot your computer."

The Brownies were unimpressed by an image of an old Nokia phone, which they thought you wouldn't be able to do 'anything' or play any games on.

Jessica was excited to recognise the Cadbury's logo on the Cadbury land toy.

She said: "I have been to Cadbury's world before and I got a monkey with chocolate button eyes."

Jessica and the other girls came to a consensus that they thought that chocolate should come with toys now.

Elizabeth said her favourite thing in the capsule was the newspapers.

She added that when the girls go camping, it might not be so different to how it was 25 years ago.

Some of the girls liked the diaries as they had enjoyed finding out about life in 2000, which they said sounded like a really long time ago.

Although one Brownie noted that her dad was alive in the millennium and can still do a handstand.

They looked through a magazine of Girl Guiding outfits, many of the girls preferred the lighter yellow noughties uniform for Brownies, saying they thought the shorts, jumpers and different t-shirts were cool.

The girls had some concerns about data safety as they were shocked to see some Brownies in 2000 had included their full addresses so that future girls could find out if they still lived in their houses.

They said they will not include their addresses in their scrapbooks for the next capsule as they are scared of stalkers.
