A Marlow bakery is marking Mother’s Day with a simple but heartfelt gesture for single mums.

Family-run chain Bakery79, based in Maple Rise, will hand out Yum Yums for free this Sunday (March 15) between 8 am and 4 pm, while stocks last.

The bakery says the idea came from recognising that, for many single mums, Mother’s Day can pass without the cards, flowers or breakfast in bed that others enjoy.

A spokesperson said: “Mother’s Day can sometimes be a little quieter for single mums who are busy looking after everyone else.

"We wanted to do something simple to recognise them and hopefully brighten their day with a small treat.”

To claim the offer, single mums just need to visit the Maple Rise store and say “Yum Yums for Single Mums” at the counter.

The gesture comes as the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show there are 3.2 million single‑parent families in the UK, with mothers heading up the vast majority.

Bakery79, which has nearly 50 years of family baking heritage behind it, has been expanding rapidly across the UK, recently opening new sites in Kent and Surrey. The Marlow branch remains one of its busiest community hubs.

The team says the giveaway is a small way to give something back locally.
