A care home manager is taking on a major cycling challenge in support of heart health.

Raj Boodhoo, general manager at Chalfont Lodge in Chalfont St Peter, will ride the 54-mile London to Brighton cycle race on June 21 to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Mr Boodhoo said: "It is going to be a long old day in the saddle but I’m really excited to take part and I’m hoping to raise lots of money for the British Heart Foundation.

"I know all the staff, residents, relatives and visitors are behind me and that they’ll be cheering me on come June 21st – it is their support that will keep me going and get me across the finish line."

His inspiration for supporting the BHF comes from a placement in a cardiac unit during his nursing studies, where he saw first-hand the impact of heart disease on patients and families.

He believes more can be done to improve outcomes for those living with heart conditions through ongoing research.

Mr Boodhoo hopes that combining his passion for cycling with an important cause will help raise awareness and funds for life-saving work.

He will ride from Clapham Common to Brighton Seafront.
