The roar of the crowd will return this bank holiday as Chiltern Open Air Museum brings the Roman arena back to life.
The Buckinghamshire museum will host a weekend of live gladiator re-enactments on May 3 and 4.
Audiences can expect dramatic displays of combat, complete with the tension and excitement of the ancient arena.
The event promises "the drama, danger and spectacle of Roman gladiatorial combat in a thrilling live re-enactment event," with performers from Britannia, one of the UK’s leading historical re-enactment groups.
Britannia’s team boasts more than 150 television and film credits, including work on Gladiator and Horrible Histories.
The gladiator event is suitable for families and history enthusiasts alike.
Visitors can also explore the museum’s collection of rescued historic buildings and enjoy a full programme of hands-on activities throughout the day.
Established in 1976 and opened to the public in 1981, the museum relies entirely on ticket sales, donations, memberships, and other self-generated income to fund its work.
