Every weekday, veterans and their partners can join us for our Day Care Service at our beautiful Home on Hughenden Avenue. It's a fully accessible, spacious Home that offers comfort and safety to residents and guests alike.
In addition to the plush spaces inside, the landscaped gardens and balconies are well kept and inviting places in which to enjoy the good weather. The High Wycombe Home holds an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, the highest available. The group was recently named in the Top 20 Small Care Home Groups 2026 by carehome.co.uk, based on relatives' feedback.
The Day Care Service Team is on hand to greet guests with a warm drink and a friendly chat to set out how the day's activities will unfold. The service is comprised of an activities programme that changes daily, gentle exercise, entertainment, days out and of course, a delicious lunch.
The aim is to bring joy to veterans and to promote conversation, friendships and celebrate their life experiences. It's equally beneficial for those living with disability or early-stage dementia who benefit from spending time in a supported, sociable setting.
The programme of activities is extensive, from music and singing to prompt memories to arts and crafts, including painting and cookery, and is guided by staff who are fully trained in nursing and dementia care. There is time for quieter moments too, whether that is a chat over coffee in the café-bar, a game of cards or simply a comfortable armchair and the newspaper.
Visitors from local schools, branches of cadets and serving military personnel from nearby bases are welcomed and nurture a wide range of friendships so that residents and service users feel fully engaged with the community.
For a partner or family member looking after a loved one at home, a regular day at Royal Star & Garter offers a stretch of respite that can be planned around work, appointments or simply a bit of time to draw breath, knowing the person they care for is somewhere safe and welcoming. The Home also offers a Lunch Club that takes place every other Thursday of each month between 12.30 and 2.30pm.
The Day Care Service runs every Monday to Friday from 10am, and guests can choose to stay until either 2pm or 4pm. There is a daily cost of either £40 or £60 per day. There's also a FREE taster session* option for first time guests to try.
Our Home is open to all UK Armed Forces veterans, including Reservists and those who completed National Service and their partners. You can read more details about eligibility here.
