Buckinghamshire Council has approved the retention of the building at Lodge Farm in Lodge Lane, Little Chalfont, alongside the change of use of surrounding agricultural land to equestrian use.
The building, which was installed in June 2025, measures approximately 12 metres by 12 metres and contains eight loose stables arranged around a central walkway.
The application was submitted retrospectively because the building had already been erected and was being used as stabling.
Chalfont St Giles, Chenies and Little Chalfont parish councils objected because of concerns about the effect on the Metropolitan Green Belt.
Chenies Parish Council said the application formed part of a series of retrospective proposals at Lodge Farm which had “incrementally increased” built development and equestrian use.
Four public representations were received, comprising three objections and one letter of support.
Objections included concerns about traffic, biodiversity, the Chilterns National Landscape and the number of horses using the site.
Council planning officers nevertheless concluded that the development was acceptable because it stands on existing hardstanding beside a larger agricultural barn and is screened by mature vegetation.
They said it was materially different from a substantially larger stable building previously refused by the council and dismissed at appeal.
Permission was granted on September 2.
Conditions prevent the stables from being used commercially as a livery or riding school. Two bat boxes and two bird boxes must also be installed on the building within three months.

Plans for a double garage to protect delivery vans from thieves have been approved in High Wycombe.
Buckinghamshire Council has granted permission for the single-storey building at Soundsorba House, 27–29 Desborough Street.
Soundsorba Ltd, an acoustic engineering company, said it would provide secure overnight storage for two delivery vans.
Its design and access statement says limited warehouse space means the vehicles must be loaded before deliveries so drivers can leave early the following morning.
The company said loaded vans are currently left in its gated yard, where there have been a number of vehicle break-ins and thefts of goods.
It said the incidents caused financial losses, disrupted operations and delayed deliveries.
The garage will occupy the area already used to park the same vehicles, meaning the company says it will not remove parking spaces or increase traffic.
It will have a pitched roof, high eaves, matching brickwork, plain tiles and a roller-shutter door.
