A Little Marlow pub has secured the highest possible food hygiene rating just weeks after being handed a one-star score.
The King's Head, which is based along Church Road in the village, was previously criticised following an inspection earlier this summer.
However, the pub has exclusively told the Free Press that they have had a reinspection and have been awarded top marks by environmental health officers.
The pub’s general manager, Toby, said the result was a "huge relief" and a "really proud moment" for the team.
In a statement, he revealed that the original examination highlighted shortcomings in demonstrating the pub's food safety systems while senior management were away.
He said: "The head chef and I were away from the pub.
“Although our food safety paperwork and systems were in place, I had not made sure that the new team members on duty knew exactly where everything was and were able to confidently demonstrate those systems to the EHO.
"That was my responsibility as general manager."
The pub said it immediately addressed the issues raised and strengthened the way food safety procedures were managed and communicated across the business.
According to management, the environmental health officer returned the following week to review the improvements and was satisfied with the work carried out, recommending a formal reinspection.
The latest visit resulted in a five-star rating, reflecting "the standards and systems we have in place".
He added: “We are particularly grateful to the Environmental Health Officer for the speed with which he returned to the premises, reviewed the improvements we had made and gave us the opportunity to demonstrate that the issues identified had been addressed.
“His guidance throughout the process has been greatly appreciated.
“We are also hugely grateful to our customers and regulars for their continued support throughout.
The result will come as welcome news for regulars of the pub, which currently holds a 4.4-star rating from 436 Google reviews.
One recent review praised the venue after it hosted a 40th birthday celebration, stating: "Toby the manager was absolutely brilliant, he helped me plan the event and bent over backwards to make sure it went smoothly.
"The food was amazing and having the outdoor space for children was a huge bonus."
The customer added: "Thank you to Toby and all the team for making our party so special."
Another one reads: “Great little country pub, came for a drink, stayed for an all you can eat BBQ in the sunshine, plus all the staff were super helpful and friendly.
“Top marks.”
