High Wycombe actor and television star James Corden is set to appear in the second season of Netflix's hit crime thriller Dept. Q.
The streaming giant has confirmed that the 48-year-old, who grew up in the town, has joined the cast of the popular series, which is currently filming its second season in Scotland.
Corden will play Dr Ben Smith, an eccentric but brilliant forensic psychologist, alongside leading actor Matthew Goode, who returns as detective Carl Morck.
Set in Edinburgh, Dept. Q follows Morck as he investigates unsolved crimes from a basement office dedicated to cold cases.
The second season is expected to adapt Jussi Adler-Olsen's novel Disgrace.
According to reports, filming has been underway since June and is set to continue until October.
A television insider told The Sun that the role will show a different side to Corden, who is more commonly associated with comedy.
The source said: "Everyone tends to associate James with comedy roles, which is completely understandable given he is best known for Gavin & Stacey.
"But this will show a different side to James by placing him in a drama which, although it has a streak of sardonic humour running throughout, is ultimately about grisly murders and kidnappings."
Corden has previously appeared in the Prime Video series Mammals and is also set to star in the forthcoming Apple TV+ comedy The Choir.
The actor attended Holmer Green Senior School before studying drama at the Jackie Palmer Stage School in the centre of High Wycombe.
