Plans to build a new 150-home neighbourhood in a Buckinghamshire town have been heavily criticised by the area's parish council.

Weedon Parish Council is 'strongly' objecting to proposals for 150 homes on land north of Prince Rupert Drive in Aylesbury.

Parish councillors believe the scheme would cause harm to the countryside area which is just north of the Buckingham Park estate.

Weedon Parish Council also notes that a similar housing scheme was rejected by the Secretary of State in 2015.

It also states that the earmarked land is part of a designated Northern Vale Landscape Character Area and was not included in the Buckinghamshire Council's Local Plan draft.

Bucks Council's draft outlined where 91,000 homes could potentially be erected in the county, but did not include this specific site, the council highlighted.

However, Buckingham Park Parish Council raised no objections with the scheme.

Nexus Planning submitted the application on behalf of Hallam Land. If approved, the project would include over 30 homes which meet the Government's affordable criteria.

According to the planning statement, extensive landscaping and improvements to the area would be made, enabling the project to be a biodiversity net gain of at least 10%.

Nexus Planning has outlined how the project would address a 1,800 plus property shortfall in housing set for development in the Aylesbury area, when compared to Bucks Council's local plan for the area.

A further notice was issued on the development to address consultation concerns with the scheme last month.

It is argued that since the original planning statement was published in April the need to build more housing in Buckinghamshire has only increased further ahead of the authorisation of a 91,00-home scheme.

Weedon Parish Council said it remains in opposition to the project.

A highways officer, representing Bucks Council, called on the planning team to submit a road safety audit. Concerns have been raised with how vehicles would exit the neighbourhood onto the Prince Rupert A414Drive/A413 roundabout.

It is feared that motorists travelling along the 50mph road may not consider traffic exiting onto the busy road network.

Thames Water is requesting that if the project is approved that a condition is imposed that the development can only go ahead if water network upgrades have been carried out.

Thames Water says the current network could not cope with the extra pressures an additional 150 homes would bring.

Consultation on the project closes on Wednesday ahead of a decision from the local authority.
