Buckinghamshire will come together this weekend to honour the nation's war dead as Remembrance Sunday services and parades take place across the county.

The county's main Remembrance Sunday service will be held in Market Square, Aylesbury, on Sunday, November 8, beginning at 10.45am.

Buckinghamshire Council chairman Cllr John Chilver will host the service, which will include the Last Post, a two-minute silence, Reveille and wreath-laying by civic, military and community representatives.

Speaking ahead of the event, Cllr Chilver said: "It is a privilege to join Buckinghamshire residents in marking Remembrance Sunday.

"As we observe the two-minute silence, we remember all those, and their families, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country."

However, Aylesbury is just one of many communities set to mark the occasion.

In High Wycombe, the Royal British Legion's annual parade and service will take place on Sunday morning.

Veterans are invited to participate in the parade, which will assemble in the Swan service road before stepping off at 10.30am and proceeding to All Saints Church for the main service.

Marlow's annual Ceremony of Remembrance will also return on Sunday. Organised by Marlow Town Council and the Royal British Legion, the event will be held on The Causeway before a parade through the town centre.

Road closures will be in place across the town, including the High Street, The Causeway and Marlow Bridge, with residents encouraged to walk to the event where possible.

In Buckingham, crowds are expected to gather for the town's Remembrance Day Parade, organised by the Royal British Legion. Participants will form up on Market Hill before marching through the town centre to the war memorial at St Peter and St Paul's Church.

A rolling road closure will be in place while the parade moves through the town, with drivers being advised to avoid the town centre if possible.

Elsewhere, services and parades are also expected to take place in communities including Chesham, Amersham, Beaconsfield, Princes Risborough, Wendover, Great Missenden, Winslow, Olney and Newport Pagnell, where residents will gather at war memorials, churches and civic spaces to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.

Many events will feature veterans, serving personnel, cadet groups, Scouts, Guides and civic leaders, alongside members of the public paying their respects.

Remembrance Sunday is held each year on the second Sunday in November and provides an opportunity for communities to pause and remember the service and sacrifice of members of the armed forces from Britain and the Commonwealth.

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to attend their local service and observe the national two-minute silence at 11am.
