Re: Open letter to the Bucks County Council and Wycombe District Council I must write to you regarding the excessive council tax bills which we are forced to pay. This tax is totally unfai and unjust.

The council has millions in the banks, so we hear in the press – some invested in foreign banks. Also, we are having our street lights turned off at night, which is fine if we the council tax payer are to see some reduction in our taxes.

The council is too complacent in the way that it spends and wastes the council tax payers hard earned money.

We have far too many speed cameras in the Bucks area. You should take example from the Swindon council and remove them, as the councils have to pay a fortune to have these cameras in operation. The cameras do not catch the real bad drivers in the road as these drivers do not have any respect for them anyway. They just catch the unfortunate driver who is normally a very considerate law abiding citizen.

I can say this with conviction, as I was a very good driving instructor for over 20 years, and I saw a lot of driving accidents. But on the whole the majority of drivers are very considerate. it is the minority that let us down and speed cameras are not the answer.

The answer is to use the flashing speed sign that warn drivers that they are going too fast in a restricted speed area.

From my years of experience, this system does the job as good as speed cameras which take in thousands of pounds in revenue and that’s all they do, regardless of what the fact and figures show from the Highways Department.

Finally please remember we are in a recession. We all know you can keep the council tax at the same level or even reduce it, by just cutting down on spending our money on unnecessary projects, and by reducing the amount of council meetings. These methods would save us a substantial amount of tax payers money.
