AN MP has congratulated staff at the high-security Aylesbury Young Offenders Institute after they dealt with a major disturbance there yesterday.
David Lidington also praised police officers for their handling of the incident.
Police are now investigating if any criminal offences took place during the disturbance.
Mr Lidington said today: “I’m pleased and relieved that this incident was brought to an end swiftly and without anyone being injured.
“That success demonstrates the professionalism of the prison service and the police, good coordination between them and sound emergency planning.
“These events are a reminder that running any prison is a difficult job especially in a high security prison like Aylesbury Young Offenders Institute.”
The Institute is said to be home to 400 of the country's most dangerous criminals. The disturbance lasted for around six hours.
