A HUSBAND-AND-WIFE farming duo had more success with their tasty sausages this week, just a month after winning the BBC Good Food Show.

Stephen and Vicky Hinds took the top prize at the British Pig Association's Pork Sausage Championships at the Royal Smithfield Christmas Show.

Their success was made more incredible by the fact they only started making bangers earlier this year.

They had a delayed wait to find out they had won, however.

Mr Hinds said: “They said they would phone on the Friday if we'd won. We didn't hear anything and thought 'we haven't won' and thought nothing of it.

“On Monday we had a call saying 'We're very sorry we didn't phone you' – they couldn't find our phone number.”

He said it was “a total surprise” to hear they had won. “We couldn't believe it,” he added.

The couple, who run Flexmore Farm in Bottrells Lane, Chalfont St Giles, won the top award with their Berkshire Pork with chilli and fresh coriander sausage – which also took first prize at the Good Food Show.

Mr Hinds said: “My wife is brilliant at putting together new flavours and getting the balance right.

“We want the best quality ingredients and meat we can produce. That's going into our sausages and we are getting these awards because of it, and that's brilliant.

“It's nice to have an endorsement from a professional body.”

He added the couple intended to enter more competitions next year to spread the word of their quality sausages.

“It gives our customers more confidence,” said Mr Hinds. “That's the main reason to get these endorsements – it's not just us saying they are good.”

The award-winning food is available to buy from the farm on Wednesdays between 2pm and 7pm.
