A SPORTY take on the Nativity Story to celebrate a club’s 10 years of dedication to teaching disabled children sport was hailed Holy as a triumph.

The quirky performance was delivered by the children of Horizon Sports Club at All Saints Church, High Wycombe on Friday night.

Delighted chairman Anita Templar said: “Kings dribbled footballs down the isle, and shepherds had a trusty sheep dog, with hockey, lacrosse, croquet sticks and javelins as crooks.

“The Kings’ gifts were tennis, rugby, table tennis balls, bats, and skittles. Everyone seemed to think it was a very original and entertaining take on the traditional story.”

The children - aged five to 16 – performed the play to celebrate the club’s decade of helping disabled youngsters play sport. In that time they have coached over 200 disabled children in everything from football to swimming. The centre also provides a place where they can make friends and socialise.

Tickets for the play were free but the club is hoping generous donations from the night will help them reach the £25,000 they have to raise each year to keep going.

Mrs Templar said: “The club is so rewarding because you can see how much the children enjoy themselves.”
