THIS week’s High Societies takes a look at a long established group - Marlow Townswomen's Guild.

The organisation, which comprises five sub groups for its various interests and activities, is one of around 900 branches nationwide.

Spokeswoman Rosie Field said: “ Marlow Townswomen's Guild is a thriving and very active organisation of 70 plus members.

“We have a very enthusiastic committee and are able to enjoy many interesting speakers and sometimes demonstrations, always followed by a cup of coffee or tea and a chat.

“We pride ourselves on being a very friendly and supportive group of women, who meet to enjoy each other's company and have fun. Anyone is very welcome.

“We organise outings which range from visits to stately homes to retail therapy and we enjoy a pub lunch once a month.

The women meet on the first Wednesday of every month at Liston Hall Marlow, from 7.30pm to 10pm.

There are five independent groups that operate within the Guild: Drama - which Mrs Field describes as “always very active, - producing plays and musical evenings for members and friends,” craft, social studies, Rummicub and the recently formed bird watching.

The Guild also has a strong focus on public affairs issues.

The Marlow group runs a Sunday Club - a group that organises outings and lunches for any member who would welcome company on a Sunday.

Mrs Field said: “Each year we support a charity, mainly local, and work throughout the year to raise funds through coffee mornings, summer sales, and drama events.

“You can see how busy we are. So come and join us, check us out, you are all very welcome and we look forward to meeting you.”
