LOUDWATER was hit by two burglaries during the daytime last Friday.

The first took place at a property in Derehams Avenue, between 9am and 6pm. A rear window was forced with a garden tool, and cash was stolen.

Another break-in took place at the Loudwater Sports Club, in Derehams Lane, between 2pm and 4pm. Entry was forced into two sheds and a set of keys was stolen.

Supt Rob Angell said Thames Valley Police offered some basic tips to cut down on burglaries at this time of year.

He said: “Residents can follow some basic steps to look after your homes and cars and reduce the risk of being burgled, especially over the festive season when the nights are longer and darker. “

Look – make sure your presents cannot be seen by thieves looking through your windows. Be careful how you dispose of the packaging on your Christmas presents. Thieves will be on the lookout for boxes so they know what valuables you’ve got.

Lights – Make your house look occupied by leaving using timer’s to switch lights on after dark.

Lock – Always deadlock your front door, even at night and ensure all ground floor windows and doors are locked.
