In exactly two weeks time it will be Christmas day. With just thirteen shopping days left I have recently been busy buying presents for my friends and writing my Christmas cards.

It’s always difficult knowing what presents to buy for people.

The other day I spent several hours in the complex looking around the department store for suitable presents for my friends. I decided to play it safe and as usual bought boxes of biscuits from the food hall. As far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with a nice “teatime selection”.

I wrote my Christmas cards a while ago and sent them off however very few people have sent me cards in return.

The other day I started giving cards out by hand to my closest friends. To my amazement quite a few of them told me they weren’t sending cards this year and they hoped that I understood.

Looking around the offices in the town there are very few cards being displayed on the workers desks. I’m wondering has the credit crunch battered the town’s people so much that we are experiencing a changing attitude to the festive season resulting in a Christmas crunch to go with the credit crunch?

In this modern age where environmental concerns are a priority is it right that we should use the world’s resources to send a greeting to a friend at this festive time of year? Let’s face it the production and delivery of the cards isn’t exactly carbon neutral is it?

The sending of an e-card using new-fangled computing technology hasn’t really taken off either. At least I’ve never received an e-card. Surely those who care for the environment would be using e-cards to send a greeting and save the planet in the process.

I’m interested to know if anyone else is experiencing a distinct lack of enthusiasm towards the sending of Christmas cards this year.

Let’s hope my friends are willing to partake in the traditional exchange of gifts otherwise I’ve got ten boxes of biscuits to eat all by myself!
