ON SEVERAL occasions recently I have noticed lads riding their bicycles with no lights, either at night or early morning when it is very dark, especially in the St Hughes Avenue and Windrush Drive areas.

Last night, three lads cycled down Windrush Drive at great speed with no lights.

As this is an elderly persons’ residential area it could have either endangered residents, motorists or children.

On my way to work this morning at 7.20, in St Hughes Avenue, a young lad suddenly appeared from nowhere in front of me on a cycle and if I had been travelling any faster or if the ground had been icy, as it has been recently, I would probably have run him over.

He had no lights on the cycle. I wound down my window and asked him where his lights were, but he looked at me as if I was mad.

Please make parents aware that, as well as being illegal, they are putting their children’s lives in danger as well as motorists and pedestrians by allowing their children to cycle with no lights.
