AN MP is encouraging residents to sign up to a Number 10 online petition in a bid to halt plans to build another 10,000 homes in his constituency.
Aylesbury MP David Lidington, whose constituency also includes Princes Risborough, Great Missenden and Naphill, said he thought it should be local authorities and residents that decided on housing schemes.
He said: “Almost everyone agrees that new homes need to be built, but there is huge resentment over housing targets being handed down by central government when it should be local councils and local people that decide.”
“People want more of a say in the way that their towns and cities develop. Those that have signed this petition clearly understand the extra pressure that will be put on local services if these proposals go ahead.”
The petition asks for an end to both the Southern and Eastern arcs as part of the Aylesbury growth plan.
The petition has been submitted by Helen Beaumont, who said she believes the market town cannot cope with the proposed growth.
So far it has gained 171 signatures. The petition is set to close on 18 January 2009. People wishing to add their name should click on the link on the right.
