INTREPID seafarers from the Wycombe area are being invited to take part in a fund-raising voyage in the Mediterranean.
The Chiltern Branch of the Tall Ships Youth Trust is organising the trip to raise cash so it can help disadvantaged youngsters try their hands at sailing.
Ted Howard-Jones, chairman of the branch, said: “We have now depleted our funds and need a new injection of cash to help us work with disadvantaged young people.
“Tall ship sailing teaches young people teamwork, communication and provides a great boost in confidence and sense of achievement.”
The week-long voyage, for adults, is scheduled to set sail in May. The sailors will be flying to Menorca where they will spend one week sailing round the islands.
Mr Howard-Jones said: “It'll be a once in a lifetime experience for many people - a real 'boys own adventure' for those who read Hornblower or the Captain Aubrey series of books by Patrick O'Brian."
He said the voyage was ideal for first-time sailors, or those who may have sailed dinghies or yachts but want the experience of a tall ship.
Anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 can take part.
The Chilterns Branch of the Tall Ships Youth Trust works with schools, youth organisations and the police to introduce young people to tall ship sailing. The branch helps more than 50 young people each year with bursaries and sponsorship.
