Amersham & Wycombe College football team, in partnership with Wycombe Wanderers FC, has won the English Colleges Football Association (ECFA) Regional Division League 8. The team clinched the title at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, beating Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School 4-2 on 13 May.

“This is a magnificent achievement for all concerned and a first for Amersham & Wycombe College,” says Martin Dean, Team Coach and Head of Sport & Public Services at the College.

The team was unbeaten since Christmas 2008. Along the way to the title, the team racked up 74 goals, including one 10-0 and three 8-0 victories, with top scorer James Galvani contributing 34 goals.

Amersham & Wycombe College runs its football scheme to help guide and nurture prospective young players through education. The educational component is there not only to help student athletes develop their sporting prowess, but also to become more employable at the end of the process, whether they opt for a career in football or otherwise.

Students in the team could not have better mentors, with the considerable coaching skills and experience of Martin Dean and Peter Scott to draw from - both hold the highly prestigious UEFA A Licence. Martin was staff coach at Crystal Palace, Brentford, Chelsea and currently at Reading Football club, while Peter had a professional football career as a player and captain of Fulham Football Club.

As the team goes from strength to strength, promising young footballers are being offered the chance to show off their skills at a professional coaching session. The trial is being run in a partnership with Wycombe Wanderers at Farnham Park in Farnham Royal on Friday 29 May from 11am – 3pm. Please contact Andy Jackson on 01442 834203 to book a place or email Martin Dean at mdean@amersham.ac.uk to find out more information about the coaching, the courses and career options.
