MOTORISTS faced chaos on Tuesday as accidents meant police had to block off roads around the county.
Two off-duty fire officers leapt to the rescue of a driver and passenger after a three-car collision on the A455 between Amersham and Beaconsfield.
Just moments after they were pulled from the wreckage at around 6.30am, the car burst into flames.
The road had to be closed for more than three hours as Amersham Traffic Police secured the scene.
Sergeant Mark Hammond, at the Amersham Traffic Unit, said that a blue Nissan Bluebird and White van collided on the right hand bend near to the Magpie Pub.
The car was thrown off the road to the opposite side of the carriageway and a third car was in collision with the back of the van.
Amersham firefighters rushed to the scene with breathing apparatus and put out the car fire but one man had to be taken by ambulance to Wycombe Hopsital with head injuries.
A second accident also caused major delays at Handycross roundabout when Metropolitan Police chased a car up the M40 and rammed the car at the roundabout.
