Amersham & Wycombe College is riding the crest of a wave with a significant number of high achieving student successes across a wide range of faculties.

“This is one of our best performances in recent years,” said Principal Gill Clipson. “It goes to show that our standard of teaching and student engagement is at an all time high.”

Performing Arts student and budding actor Alastair Preen returned from the recent Big Skills Awards in Buckinghamshire with not one, but two prizes. Having been nominated for the Adult Learner Award, Alastair then picked up the Overall Award for Excellence for the whole of Buckinghamshire. Fellow Performing Arts student Robyn Bevan made it through to the final of the World Skills UK Contemporary Dance finals in London on July 9 with a highly original solo performance. National Diploma Acting student Kate Tulloch achieved first place in her heat of World Skills UK Acting and went through to the final which took place in Stockport earlier this month. Student Nadine Samuels was selected to sing at the Learning Skills Council Awards Evening and put in another strong performance this month in Milton Keynes at the Big Skills Event held in the central shopping mall.

And it’s not just in Performing Arts where Amersham & Wycombe College students have excelled. Tim Skegg Course Leader in e-Media says; “the quality of student animation work this year has exceeded expectation and many students have shown an abundance of raw talent with show reels to industry standard. Several students have attracted the interest of big entertainment companies and we fully expect them to go on to greater things.”

On the sporting scene, and rounding off a highly successful academic year, the College’s under 19 football team, in partnership with Wycombe Wanderers FC, won the English Colleges Football Association (ECFA) Regional Division League 8 in May, with an outstanding performance that saw them fire in 74 goals en route to the title.
