TRAFFIC is set to be disrupted in Amersham over the coming weeks as £2million worth of gas pipes are replaced.

Work is to be carried out on 41 roads in the town as “essential” replacement projects start later this month.

National Grid, which is carrying out the work, says it has been planned carefully with the council, traffic police and bus companies to minimise disruption to local residents and motorists.

Construction Operation Engineer Mick Pierce said: “To reduce disruption we will be inserting the new plastic pipes into the old metallic mains wherever possible to reduce the need for open trenches in the roads.

“We apologise for any inconvenience but these essential schemes will help ensure residents and businesses in Amersham continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies in future years.

“Anyone with queries about the project can call our 24 hour helpline number on 0800 096 5678.”

No date for the start of the work has been confirmed.
