A PETITION with 337 signatures has today called for a zebra crossing in Beaconsfield to be made safer for pedestrians.

Councillor Peter Hardy, of the Bulstrode ward, presented the petition to Buckinghamshire County Council.

The campaign to stop cars parking on the pavement at each side of the zebra was started by mother-of-three Kate Power after her husband was hit by a car at the crossing on London End (see link below).

Residents say there is a lack of visibility around the crossing because of cars parked on the pavement.

There is a legal difficulty in stopping cars parking there because it is designated as 'common land', though the county and district councils say they 'looking' at this (see link below).

The petition calls for county roads boss Val Letheren to step in and take action.
