HAVE you made your New Year's resolution, and are you keeping to it? Why not try one where you can help other people? The Children's Society is organising a sponsored walk along the Pilgrim's Way in summer, from Rochester to Canterbury. Participants should be able to manage six hours walking per day averaging four kilometres per hour. If you would like to know more please call 0845 300 1128.

LOCAL schools are looking for volunteers to help with reading, and the South Bucks Volunteer Centre has organised a three-day course on Helping with Reading in Schools (in conjunction with South Bucks Adult Learning Department).

The course dates are January 30, and February 6 and 13 in the mornings. To register or find out more, please telephone the Centre on 01753 893793.

ST Mary's have regular Sunday afternoon walks, and anyone is welcome to join them. They last about two hours and the meeting place is the War Memorial in the Old Town at 1.40pm. The next walk is on Sunday so call David Pulling on 01494 673028 to learn more.

THIS coming Sunday is World Leprosy Day and there will be a service at the URC in Aylesbury End at 10.30am.

CROWNING Years Group meet on Wednesday at the Baptist Church at 10.30am for activities and lunch.

NEWCOMERS to the area need to find out about local groups that are relevant to their needs. If you are new to the area with very young children then you might like to know about Mother and Toddler groups. Tiny Toms are from 1.30pm at St Thomas Hall, Mayflower Way, Holtspur on Mondays; a group is at the Fitzwilliams Centre Wednesdays from 1.30pm. If Thursdays are your preferred day then try the URC in Aylesbury End at 10.30am, while on Fridays you can visit St Michaels Halland the Bulrushes at 10am.

All these meet in term time only and will welcome newcomers, but children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

A QUIZ evening is being held on February 8 at the Curzon Centre in aid of Cancer Research UK and £10 tickets are available from 01494 716427 or 674611. It starts at 7.30pm and includes raffle, licensed bar and light refreshments.

FARMERS Market is tomorrow from 9am till 12.30pm in the Old Town and as usual this means the Reading Room Information Centre will also be open during the morning.
