THE above news comes at the same time as a campaign by Cookham residents who want to change their Slough postcode to reduce car insurance premiums.

Sam Sethi, 36, of Cookham Dean, has set up an internet survey to gauge support for changing the postcode from Slough's SL to Maidenhead and Windsor's MW.

He claims that the Berkshire town's high crime rates have pushed up car insurance premiums in SL postcode districts because insurers use postcodes to assess risk.

Mr Sethi said: "Snobbishness is a part of it. People who don't even live in the area know Slough. When I talk about Slough with my friends, we call it 'Rough Slough'.

Already more than 400 people have registered on his website to catalogue their views. He added: "I only did it as a laugh. But a lot of people say they know what I am saying. Car crime figures are four times higher for Slough

"We pay our council tax to the Royal Borough and it is responsible for crime rate reduction."

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "A postcode is really there so that we can deliver mail quickly, easily and efficiently. They relate to the location of sorting offices. They are not really geographical."
