CHILDREN in Buckinghamshire are being urged to Hold their Tongues for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Teachers, parents and youth group leaders can register for the national ten-minute silence on February 7 which is sponsored by Nationwide Building Society.

The charity hopes to raise £220,000 this year. The event, now in its seventh year, has raised more than £700,000 for Macmillan's cancer care services to date.

Anne Dodds, fundraising manager, said: "This is such a fun challenge to take part in, why not just use the ten minutes as a starting point?

"In Buckinghamshire we are currently negotiating with the NHS to develop new services for the benefit of people living with cancer."

Model and actress Emma Noble is backing the campaign.

She said: "I'm delighted to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Relief's Hold Your Tongue Challenge. Come on, get together on February 7 and stop rabbiting for Macmillan.

"You'll know you're really helping people living with cancer all over the UK."

All the money raised through the Hold Your Tongue Challenge will help people living with cancer and their families.

The money will go towards providing Macmillan nurses, doctors, buildings for cancer care and help for patients in financial difficulties.

To register for the Hold Your Tongue challenge or if you would like further information call the hotline on 0845 601 1716.
