PARTLY in view of the newspaper coverage and partly because of my outrage regarding the hammering NHS hospitals are getting, I am writing to put the other side of the picture concerning hospitals.

I have recently been a patient at the Wycombe Hospital for an eye operation. I experienced nothing but extreme efficiency, kindness and a splendid result. The hospital was clean, tidy, comfortable and welcoming, and the behaviour and approach of the staff exemplary.

I might add that I can no longer be described as young, as I am a pensioner, but the treatment I received gave the lie to those who maintain that the elderly are treated as second-class citizens.
