A TELEGRAM from The Queen, a visit from MP John Bercow and the company of many friends were all enjoyed by Yorkshire lass Lillian Needham when she turned 100 on Monday.

Well-wishers of the Friends of St Mary's Church, St Mary's Fellowship and the Women's Institute, all of which 100-year-old Mrs Needham is an active member, joined in the birthday bash on Monday at Abbeyfield Home, Stonecroft, Haddenham.

Last year Mrs Needham stole the limelight after being chosen to plant a yew tree in St Mary's Churchyard as part of millennium celebrations.

Her daughter, Mary White, of Rudds Lane, Haddenham, said: "She was full of the joys being surrounded by so many flowers and friends and the 92 cards she has received so far."

Proud Lillian was also congratulated by the Mayor of Sheffield and the Minister for Pensions, Alistair Darling.

And more surprises are in the pipeline for the mother of two, grandmother of four and great-grandmother of four more.

Next weekend will see family from across the country and as far afield as Holland fly in to be with Mrs Needham for a special dinner.
