WYCOMBE boss Lawrie Sanchez has praised his team's character for keeping the season's play-off hopes alive with two goals in three minutes on Saturday.

Wanderers came from behind to beat promotion rivals Bristol City 2-1 at Adams Park, thanks to goals from comeback king Sean Devine and skipper-for-the-day Mark Rogers.

Boss Lawrie Sanchez said: We showed tremendous character. With 20 minutes to go our season looked over but we managed to come back and pull off a tremendous win.

If we had lost that game it would have taken a massive effort from us to turn it round. But now were still hanging on in there.

Weve got 16 more battles ahead of us and weve got to win ten of them. Its an uphill battle but if we play like that its not beyond the realms of possibility.

You could see the players were up for it. I think the players knew that this was the defining moment of the season. It was either do it today or play out the rest of the season.

And by doing that today they have given themselves a slight chance.

Citys Lee Peacock scored the opening goal on 63 minutes but Sean Devine scored a 70th minute equaliser from a free kick.

The noise from the Valley Enders almost lifted the roof off as Wycombe celebrated the return of one of its greatest goalscorers.

And the decibel level increased further when Rogers completed the fairytale by popping up with the winner.

Sanchez said: It was a great win. I think Bristol City can get automatic promotion but we have beaten them twice this season.

Its been a great day for us. Everybody played well. Sean getting off the mark is a major boost for him and the team. Were looking a decent side again. There were a lot of positives today.
