ILIAD at The Centre on Saturday night offers a chance to see Andrew Potter in a role which has been highly praised during its initial run at the Wycombe Swan. You don't need to be a classics scholar to understand this study on why we make war. Anyone who saw Andrew as Richard III will want to see him in Iliad. The performance starts at 8pm and tickets are £5 on the door or from the Centre Office on 01628 522604.

AWARDS were presented last Thursday evening at the AGM of the Operatic Society which was attended by their honorary president, Lady Betty Chacksfield.

In her chairman's report Margaret Pleming thanked members and supporters for their constant attendance during the year.

Treasurer Paul Pleming was delighted to announce that the society had done well during the year and returned a profit. He explained that this occurred through economies in musician hire charges for productions and using alternative locations for rehearsals. Both Margaret and Paul said they would be standing down and a vote of thanks was given by members.

Dave Gibson was proposed as the new chairman with Sally Jellyman as honorary secretary and Don Clack taking on the treasurer's role.

The Sir Bernard Chacksfield Trophy for service to the Society was presented to Dave Gibson and there was a special long service award of engraved wine glasses to Richard West who has been rehearsal pianist for many years.

MODEL trains will take over the Community Centre on Sunday from 11am. Members of the Hurley O' Gauge Group hold one of their running sessions. Stations, cuttings, bridges and shunting yards will be used to good effect as the model trains take to the rails. Entry costs £2 per family and there's refreshments and stalls. It's great fun for all the family.

DOG rescue supporters should know that the Stokenchurch centre have stopped holding regular sales and collections of jumble are no longer needed. Jean Howell in New Road has been the local collector and she says "After 30 years of running sales they've decided to call a halt so it's no more jumble, clothes or curtains in my porch please". Jean said that she will continue to accept blankets and towels for use in the centre. She added the Centre's thanks to everyone who had supported so enthusiastically over the last 30 years.

ALPINES and heathers will be the subject of Arnold Stow's talk to the Horticultural Society next Thursday evening at 8pm. Members meet in St Dunstan's Church Hall.
