'COOK chips with care' is Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue's message for this year's National Chip Week.
Wycombe Fire Brigade has joined forces with the British Potato Council to encourage chip-loving cooks to enjoy their favourite dish safely.
It is estimated that a quarter of the population still owns open chip pans and accidents while cooking account for 59 per cent of fires in the home, making the kitchen the most common place for fires to start.
Chip lovers are being urged to cook chips safely, and the brigade will be giving advice on the best ways to prevent, and deal with chip pan fires.
Chip pans are currently the second-biggest cause of household fires, and latest figures show they caused 246 fires in homes in Bucks last year.
Fire brigades across the country will be supporting National Chip Week and helping to educate the chip-loving public to cook their chips with care.
