February 22, 2001 10:08: KINDHEARTED Julie Morris has won a prize after entering the National Youth Award, a competition to encourage young people to take part in community voluntary work.
The 18-year-old was awarded the Amersham and Chesham Lions Clubs Youth Award Shield, together with a Certificate of Appreciation and a cheque for £100 for the charity of her choice, by the Lions' president Gordon Acaster on February 8.
Her voluntary work includes assisting in the Chesham Special Needs Gym Club, helping children at a middle school with their information technology skills, helping at a party for the elderly on Christmas Day and collecting food from shops for Christmas parcels.
Julie, a Chesham High School A-level music student and a member of the Chesham All-Girls Band, will use her £100 to help with the costs of the band.
