THE week of June 26 saw more than 2,000 Little Splashers and their families doing their bit for Tommy's Campaign during Splashathon 2000, held in association with Huggies Little Swimmers.

At 260 swimming pools nationwide, babies and toddlers were encouraged by their parents to splash a width of their local pool in aid of the charity, which funds research into miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.

Lots of little ones splashed in memory of their brothers or sisters which made the event even more worthwhile.

Over the last few weeks a fantastic load of cheques and letters have been rolling in making it seem very likely that this year's Splashathon will raise £100,000 to help save tiny lives.

One in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage, one in 188 babies are stillborn and more than 100 babies are born too small or too soon every day.

My wife, Jackie, suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have two beautiful, healthy little girls.

However, we do feel very strongly that no parent should have to experience the heartache of problems in pregnancy.

On behalf of Tommy's Campaign, I would personally like to thank all those pools and fantastically enthusiastic Little Splashers who showed their support and helped raise funds.

Your efforts are hugely appreciated and the money raised will help Tommy's Campaign continue their vital work into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.
