SUMMER signing Stewart Castledine has vowed to stay at Adams Park and fight for his place.

SUMMER signing Stewart Castledine has vowed to stay at Adams Park and fight for his place.

The former Wimbledon midfielder, who has not started a match since his much-hyped summer signing from Wimbledon, says he won't do a Stan Collymore and demand a transfer because he isn't playing.

But Castledine, with his background in the Premiership, admits the situation is getting to him.

He said: 'It's frustrating because I came here to play first team football. There were other teams interested in me when I signed and maybe with hindsight I might be playing if I had gone somewhere else.

'But I came here because I had such a good time when I was here on loan and I have a real feeling for the club.'

Castledine has been a victim of circumstances. He wasn't match fit when he arrived and was then injured in pre-season forcing him out of the side.

Without him, Wanderers got off to a flying start and Castledine has hardly had a look in since.

Sympathetic boss Sanchez said: 'It hasn't worked out the way either of us would have envisaged.

'He's been unfortunate but when you're fifth in the table without him it's difficult to change the side and he knows that.

'It's not what he or I expected. But he's here long-term and he'll get his chance to play plenty of games for us.

'He's disappointed because he came here with high hopes. But he is an important member of our squad and we will need all 24 of them.'

Castledine showed what he can do when he came on as sub when Blues were heading for Worthington Cup humiliation against third division Barnet. He scored the equaliser to take the game into extra time but, apart from that, his few appearances have been limited to five or ten minutes as a substitute.

He said: 'It's very disappointing but I know I've got to bide my time. I've spoken to the boss. He was honest with me and I can see his point.

'The lads have performed very well. I've got to keep on training and hope my chance comes.

'It's a catch-22 sistuation. I need to get the match fitness but I can't get that if I'm not playing.

'Being left out is disappointing but I'm not going to fall out of love with this club. I've signed a three year contract and I'm confident that once I get into the team I will stay there.'

Castledine could get his chance tonight with midfielder Mo Harkin on international duty.

Jason Cousins is another hoping for his first start tonight. He has waited in the wings while Mark Rogers has made the right back berth his own. But Rogers is now away with Canada.

Cousins said: 'It's been frustrating all I can do is keep working and keep putting the pressure on.'
