RESIDENTS have threatened to stop paying council tax if housing bosses go ahead with plans to move a family of travellers into their street.

The Holmer Green Village Centre in The Common was packed with furious home-owners on Monday protesting against plans to house severely disabled Patrick Cash and his family from Wapsey's Wood caravan park, Gerrards Cross, to Winters Way, Holmer Green.

At least six residents say they have decided to put their houses on the market in a bid to move before the family moves in at the end of the month.

The meeting heard how Chiltern District Council has a duty to house people registered as homeless and organised a £40,000-£50,000 re-fit of the property to meet the needs of Mr Cash, who injured his spinal column in an accident two years ago.

Members of the Holmer Green Campaign Group (HGCG) vowed to stop the family moving in.

One resident of Winters Way, who refused to be named, said at the meeting: 'There will be civil disturbance if you (the council) do not stop them moving in.

'You had better take action fast or there will be trouble.'

During the heated debate several residents stood up and hurled abuse at Chiltern District councillors Margaret Hamilton and David Schofield who attended the public meeting to listen to the concerns of residents.

After the meeting residents said they would withhold payment of council tax if the family were moved in.

Cllr Schofield (Con, Holmer Green) told the meeting it was not normal practice to release information about new tenants, but said an exception had been made in this case to alleviate residents' concerns.

Eileen Cash, Patrick's wife, told the Bucks Free Press on Wednesday: 'We are just family people and we never hurt anyone.

'We just want to keep ourselves to ourselves. Let them say what they like.'
