Watery Lane is not dangerous

This article is brought to you by our exclusive subscriber partnership with our sister title USA Today, and has been written by our American colleagues. It does not necessarily reflect the view of The Herald.

I SEE one of the small band of Councillor Woollard 'helpers' is seeking, yet again, to perpetuate the myth that Watery Lane, Skirmett is dangerous (Letters, June 16).

It is not! Using the normal Bucks CC criteria of the incidence of personal injury accidents, it is one of the least dangerous, since it has had no reported accidents, for many years, if ever.

You can't get less than that!!

As such, diverting resources here increases the risk of other really dangerous roads not being attended to and hence of someone else incurring death or injury.

How selfish can you get?

We should also be wary of the illusion that the people of Skirmett persuaded BCC to close it.

Officers of BCC have been trying to close it for at least six years, not for safety reasons, but to avoid maintenance costs.

So Cllr Woollard and his 'helpers' have been used as pawns.

As for the 256 signature petition which was presented by the councillor to BCC as the overwhelming opinion of the residents of Hambleden and Turville parishes for closure, I am told that analysis of it reveals that only 31 of the 256 signatories live in either of the parishes (unless Lagos, Nigeria, parts of Yorkshire and many other like addresses are tucked away somewhere in the Hambleden Valley!!)
