Re: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy AFTER reading one bad review, one not quite as bad review and one bad letter regarding this new film, I felt I had to jump to its defence.

I read the book many years ago and so have my children. We all love the new film. They certainly didn't get lost with regards as to why they got hit in the face with spades and they understood why they carried a towel (they had forgotten that bit from the book). As to Deep Thought seeming bored when she gives her answer, I think it's usually called irony. And I absolutely loved the cameo bit for the original Marvin.

I think people need to accept films for what they are, a more modern version of a classic. Remember it was originally written for radio everything else followed later. If everything has to stay the same then we wouldn't have the fantastic film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera.

Okay, so they changed the story a little to get it on film. Okay, the CG and other effects are there in abundance, something you don't get on stage, but it is still a fantastic film.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and accept it for what it is, a great piece of entertainment with a light-hearted look at how extraordinary thi-ngs can happen to very ordinary people.
