A BRAVE employee thwarted an attempted armed robbery at a newsagents after a man entered the store wielding a knife.

The Forbuoys worker was threatened by a slim, white man in his 20s, who brandished a 12-inch blade, as he demanded money at around 7.30am on Wednesday, June 8.

The shop assistant, at the store at Hazlemere Crossroads, refused and the would-be robber ran out of the shop in the direction of High Wycombe town centre.

Early morning customers, left waiting outside, praised the man's heroism.

Ram Aggarwal said: "I'm not surprised. These things happen all the time now. I am just glad no one was hurt."

The offender is 6ft 1ins tall, with dark brown hair and a fringe.

He was wearing dark jeans, light coloured, dirty looking trainers and a blue hooded top with distinctive yellow writing on the front and the hood up.

He was carrying a 12-inch black-handled knife with a dark-coloured blade and was seen running off down Amersham Road.

No one was hurt and nothing was stolen or damaged in the incident.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Abbe Breen said: "We are particularly keen to speak to a girl who was in the shop just prior to the attempted robbery.

"She has blonde hair and bought a packet of Benson and Hedges Gold cigarettes, and a packet of chewing gum.

"We believe the man waited outside the shop until she left before he went in, so it is also possible that he could have been seen by several people driving past at that busy time of day, and others may have spotted him as he ran away from the shop."
